About
The Pittsburgh Area Food Policy council is a collection of 12-20 dedicated community activist working to make Pittsburgh's food system sustainably abundant, accessible and equitable to all citizens. Policy councils are common in social activism, ithey can work on a state level, regional level or city level and they can be an offical government sector or a small grass roots movement of community members.
The PFPC is the latter, there vision is for a food system that benefits our community, our economy and our environment. By working with the City of Pittsburgh's commitment to the development of a coordinated municipal food and urban agriculture policy, and articulating the intention of establishing a Food Policy Council populated by key stakeholders who can provide the City with advice, momentum and support on issues related to food production, food access, food distribution, health/nutrition education and urban planning.
Collaboration

Currently the council is in the finale stages of writing a Food Policy Charter for the city of pittsburgh and collaborating with Jason Kambitsis from city planning on a re-write of Pittsburgh's agricultural zoning ordinances

Members
The Pittsburgh Area Food Policy Council brings together a wide range of community activist, leaders and members. You do not have to be affiliated with a certain organization or groups to join the food policy council.
